Fourteen departments offer many basic sciences and applied technology programs. For basic sciences, Departments of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Botany and Genetics, and Biochemistry study deeply in the general knowledge in each field, as well as follow such current global interests as nanotechnology, bioinformatics, geoinformatics, neuroscience and cognitive sciences. Departments of Chemical Technology, Food Technology, Photographic Science and Printing Technology, Microbiology, Marine Science, Environmental Science, Geology and Materials Science transfer basic sciences by applying and implementing basic sciences to local interests and industry problems, as well as bringing back the local knowledge into basic sciences. From the integration between departments, we find our strengths in such fields as energy, food, disasters, environment, marine resource and biodiversity.
